Merton & Muir Design recognizes that each landscaping project is unique, from your particular needs and wants, to the special conditions of your property and budget.
Professional services generally include the preparation of a Master Site Plan defining the organization of primary site components such as driveways, courtyards, terraces, pergolas, swimming pools, ponds and water features, walkways, gardens, fencing, retaining walls, landscape grading, and planting concepts. Once portions of the Master Plan are selected for implementation, services include the preparation of design development drawings, working drawings and specifications for construction, as well as detailed planting and exterior lighting plans. Review of the site work during the construction phase is conducted intensively to ensure follow through with the design intent.
Given the synergy that results when architects, interior designers and landscape architects integrate their design efforts, we sometimes assist in the selection of these and other professional consultants and contractors to form effective teams to best achieve the client’s objectives. Our client relationships typically extend well past initial construction phases as the the client’s needs evolve.
Based in Westchester County, New York, Merton & Muir Design, provides landscape and architectural design services for residential and estate commissions throughout the tri-state area.
Responding to the client’s program and vision, the technical and aesthetic challenges presented by the natural environment, and the spatial interrelationships between buildings and site, we create cohesive and thoughtful landscape compositions with an emphasis on composition. We are committed to an exceptionally high level of personal service to every client, from project inception to the maintenance phases of mature landscapes.
Commissions are frequently designed in collaboration with architects to ensure that building construction and alterations are integrated with the site design. Our work balances the inherent natural characteristics of the site with the architectural context of its buildings. Built forms, including site structures, pools, walls, terraces and driveways are integrated with land and planted forms to create carefully proportioned design solutions that pos-sess an ageless, understated elegance.
How We Work
Initial Meeting
We will conduct a walk-thru with you to understand all of your visions and goals. We’ll raise any issues and provide constructive feedback regarding those goals. We will have an initial review of time frame and budget.
Follow-Up Meeting
We use the information we’ve gathered to provide options and budgets including renderings, pictures of plants and their attributes to help guide and visualize the process.
Presentation & Review
We meet with you to review plans based on our Follow Up meeting. All aspects and options will be reviewed and finalized. Additional renderings and pictures will help this process.
Revision & Modification
If needed, we will create a revised estimate for you based on your feedback on our proposal or the Landscape Master Plan.
Contract
Once we receive a signed agreement, the project will be scheduled on our calendar. Continuous project installation is the goal weather withstanding.
During Installation
We’ll touch base with you on a regular basis. One of us will be on-site to set plants, monitor progress, and handle any issues that might arise. We’ll ensure that issues are raised with you in a clear and timely fashion. If we need your input, we’ll make sure to get it before we proceed.
Completed Project
We’ll walk your new project and answer any of the questions you have. A final invoice will be issued to you at this point, along with short term and long term care instructions.
But That’s Not The End!
We will monitor your landscape as it grows and provide additional guidance if needed.
